Disneyland Shuts Six Attractions as Its 70th Anniversary Winds Down

Disneyland's 70th-anniversary celebration concludes on August 9, and the park is marking the transition with six new attraction closures layered on top of two that were already shut down — a stretch of overlapping maintenance windows that guests visiting in the next few weeks will need to track closely.

Pixie Hollow's Meet-and-Greet Goes Dark on Select Weekdays

The Tinker Bell meet-and-greet at Pixie Hollow in Fantasyland is closing on a partial schedule in August, going dark on Tuesdays and Thursdays rather than shutting for a single continuous stretch. That means the area is unavailable on eight specific days through the month, even though it recently finished a refurbishment that lasted roughly 10 months. Guests hoping to meet Tinker Bell should check the day of the week against their visit date rather than assuming the attraction is either fully open or fully closed for the month.

Haunted Mansion, Sailing Ship Columbia and New Orleans Square Face Staggered Closures

The busiest of the new closures lands at Haunted Mansion, which shuts down August 8 through 20 and is expected to reopen August 21 already dressed in its holiday overlay for the Halloween season. Main Street Cinema follows with a closure running August 10 through 27, timed to the anniversary's official end; that closure is also expected to remove a video segment documenting new lyrics the late Disney songwriter Richard Sherman wrote for "it's a small world," a detail tied specifically to the anniversary-era presentation rather than routine upkeep.

Two Rivers of America attractions are scheduled for repeat outages rather than one continuous closure. The Sailing Ship Columbia is out of service August 3 through 7 and again August 10 through 14, while Davy Crockett's Explorer Canoes close August 3 through 6 and August 10 through 13. Because both attractions share the same body of water, guests who specifically want to ride the Columbia should plan around its non-consecutive closure windows rather than assuming a single block of downtime.

Two Attractions Already Closed Extend Into September

Separate from the six new closures, two attractions that shut down earlier in the summer remain unavailable. The Frontierland Shootin' Exposition, closed since early July for an extended refurbishment, is expected to stay shut through at least early September. At Disney California Adventure, the Silly Symphony Swings in Paradise Gardens has been closed since late April and is also expected to remain out of commission into early September. Neither closure has a confirmed reopening date, which is consistent with Disney's pattern of holding back firm dates until refurbishment work is closer to finished.

Incredicoaster and Redwood Creek Challenge Trail Return Ahead of Halloween Time

Not every attraction is closing. The Incredicoaster and Redwood Creek Challenge Trail are both scheduled to reopen August 15, positioning them to be available before Halloween Time begins across the resort on August 21. Redwood Creek Challenge Trail's return carries added significance for guests attending the after-hours Oogie Boogie Bash party, since the area is transformed into the villains-themed Villains Grove for that separately ticketed event, which starts August 18.

Taken together, the closures and reopenings mark the resort's routine seasonal handoff — moving out of its 70th-anniversary programming and into fall — but the timing means several popular attractions overlap in their downtime during the same two- to three-week stretch. Guests with trips planned in August should check Disneyland's official attraction schedule close to their visit date, since refurbishment windows, including the ones described here, are subject to change without further notice.
